We are now looking for an experienced, locally hired

Country Manager, Germany – Market Development and Strategic Partnerships

to accelerate growth opportunities and build strategic partnerships for Visit Finland and Finnish travel suppliers in the German market. This is a permanent position, starting January1, 2027. The role will be based at the Business Finland office in Berlin and reports to the Director of International Operations at Visit Finland, based in Finland.

At Visit Finland, we work closely with Finnish travel industry partners to increase Finland’s visibility, appeal, and demand as a travel destination. Germany is a leading source market for Finland and a priority market for many Finnish destinations and travel companies.

In this role, you will focus on building and strengthening strategic partnerships with key travel trade stakeholders, airline partners, and cruise operators in Germany. You will connect Finnish travel suppliers with local industry partners and identify market opportunities that drive sustainable business growth and increased travel demand to Finland. The role also involves close collaboration with the Embassy of Finland in Germany and other Team Finland partners.

YOUR TASKS

In this role, you will:

  • Create new business opportunities and provide value-added support for Finnish travel companies and destinations.
  • Develop and maintain strong strategic partner relationships with key travel industry stakeholders, airline partners, and cruise operators.
  • Drive sales promotion activities and partner campaigns to increase demand for travel to Finland.
  • Plan and host sales events, workshops, and destination webinars in collaboration with Visit Finland units.
  • Represent Visit Finland and Destination Finland at travel trade events, workshops, and trade fairs.
  • Organize familiarization (FAM) trips for key travel trade partners
  • Monitor market trends and share relevant insights with Visit Finland teams and the broader Finnish travel industry.
  • Align activities with other Visit Finland functions and teams, such as marketing & communications, business intelligence, and travel industry cooperation.
  • Cooperate with local Team Finland partners, such as the Embassy of Finland in Germany, to support national objectives.

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU

We are looking for a true professional with a strong, hands-on understanding of the German market, focused on strategic market development and identifying new business opportunities for Finland.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in destination marketing, the travel trade, or the transportation industry.
  • Extensive travel trade networks in Germany and a deep understanding of the German leisure travel market and distribution channels.
  • A holistic understanding of and expertise in the international leisure travel business and industry landscape.
  • Proven experience working with airlines, charter operators, and other transportation partners.
  • Good networking skills and a strong background in managing and developing customer relationships.
  • Creative and bold, with the ability to think outside the box and identify new business and promotional opportunities.
  • Project management skills and experience with international projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and experience in various business negotiations and presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Team player and open communicator.
  • Master’s degree, preferably in tourism, business, marketing, communications, or public administration.

Fluency in German and English is required to succeed in this position.

At Visit Finland, you will play a central role in the development of the Finnish travel industry. We help Finnish travel companies expand internationally, enhance the appeal of Finnish travel services in international markets, and promote Finland as an attractive and sustainable travel destination.

You will work alongside a Visit Finland colleague in the Berlin office, sharing responsibilities and coordinating closely on key market activities. An Area Manager based in Finland works closely with this role, supporting collaboration and engagement with Finnish travel industry partners.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

This position is for local recruitment and requires a work permit in Germany.

Germany will be your primary market, with occasional responsibilities extending to Benelux, Austria, and Switzerland. The role involves travel primarily within Germany, as well as regular trips to Finland.
